About ASOA
The Arizona State Orthodontic Association (ASOA) is a professional association of orthodontic specialists who have had two to three years additional training in an ADA-approved University Orthodontic Program. We are trained in applying braces, both visible and invisible, on the teeth of adults and children to improve their dental health by helping them bite correctly and building self-esteem by making their faces look better. Our members are dedicated to delivering the highest standards of excellence in orthodontic education and quality patient care.

Dr. Baumgaertel has lectured nationally and internationally on orthodontic mini-screws, Miniscew-Assisted-Rpid-Palatal-Expansion (MARPE), and Cone Beam Computed Tomography. He has published multiple scientific articles and acts as a reviewer for a number of high-profile journals such as the American Journal of Orthodontics, The Angle Orthodontist, and the European Journal of Orthodontics. Additionally he is author and co-editor of two textbooks:
- Mini-Implants in Orthodontics – Innovative Anchorage Concepts (Quintessence)
- Self-ligating Brackets in Orthodontics: Current Concepts and Techniques (Thieme)
Dr. Baumgaertel is a Clinical Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and a Visiting Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. In addition, he maintains an active orthodontic practice in Longmont, CO. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a certified orthodontic specialist in Germany.
Dr. Mart McClellan is not only a retired orthodontist and financial advisor, but he is also a knight of the Order of St. James (maybe the only knight in orthodontics?)! He is President of Macro Wealth Management, a firm that utilizes an evidence-based holistic planning system and Past-President of the Illinois Society of Orthodontists . He is a Charter Member of the Forbes Speakers group and has spoken both nationally and internationally (World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland). He is also an author of numerous best-selling books, “Your Retirement Smile” “Pivotal Leadership”, “How to Survive and Thrive”, and has contributed to many national publications. Mart graduated from DePauw University, received his doctorate in dental surgery from
Northwestern University, and his Master’s of Science from the University of Michigan. Mission trips to Kenya, Guatemala, and the Amazon Rain Forest of Peru have greatly influenced his life path.
